Lose the toothache without losing the tooth!
Endodontic or Root Canal treatments are used when the inside of the tooth (the root or pulp) become infected or damaged – Generally the only solutions to this type of damage is to remove the tooth entirely or carry out anendodontic/root canal treatment.
Infection and damage to the root can be very painful, creating inflammation with the risk of severe pain and swelling. Endodontics eliminates the cause of this pain by completely removing the diseased or damaged tissue from the tooth, meticulously cleaning, shaping and decontaminating the root canal before securely filling it back up with a durable, inert material.
This means you can be pain free whilst still keeping your original tooth.
Endodontics is a meticulous and difficult procedure, but with the right training and experience it can be carried out painlessly and with reliable results – therefore the skills and experience of the practitioner are vital. Unlike a conventional dentist who may carry out one or two root canal treatments per week, Visage are proud to have a dedicated endodontics practitioner, who carries out dozens of these procedures every month.
It is normal to feel some tenderness in the area for a few days after your root canal treatment as your body undergoes the natural healing process. You may also feel some tenderness in your jaw from keeping it open for an extended period of time. These symptoms are temporary and usually respond very well to over-the-counter pain medications. It is important for you to follow the instructions on how to take these medications. Your tooth may continue to feel slightly different from your other teeth for some time after your root canal treatment has been completed. However, if you have severe pain or pressure that lasts more than a few days, please contact us.
Stephen Martin (MSC BDS MJDF RCS [ENG] PG DIP) has been carrying out these procedures for over 15 years in practices and hospitals as far afield as Australia. Stephen is highly regarded in his field and regularly lectures on the subject at the Postgraduate Dental Institute in Edinburgh, as well as other locations around the country. If you need a root canal treatment in Glasgow, you can be sure that, at Visage, your endodontic care is in the best possible hands.
